A San Marcos man was shot and killed Thursday night after an argument with his stepfather, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported Friday.

Deputies were summoned to the 3500 block of 9th Street about 5 p.m. to investigate reports of a shot fired in the area, Lt. Bill Baxter said. When deputies arrived, they found Michael M. Levine, 20, lying in a driveway, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Witnesses told deputies that Levine stumbled to the driveway after being shot in front of his home. Deputies went to his home where they arrested David Sadurday, 40, and recovered a handgun, Baxter said. Sadurday was booked into the County Jail in Vista on suspicion of murder.

Both men, who were unemployed, apparently had quarreled before the shooting. Homicide detectives said they did not know what the two men were quarreling about.
