Jack Trudeau, quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with battery on a policeman and disorderly conduct, authorities said.

Trudeau was arrested about 1:40 a.m. when a police officer attempted to break up a fight outside a downtown bar, police said. Indianapolis Police Department Officer Rickey L. Dean said he was patrolling in the 200 block of South Meridian Street when he saw a group of men fighting.

Dean said he approached the men and pulled Joseph C. Venkus, 25, of Oaklawn, Ill., away from the skirmish.

Dean said Trudeau then hit an unidentified man, and when Dean grabbed Trudeau’s arm, “he turned around and struck me with a closed fist.” Dean said he was hit on the side of the head. The other men involved in the fight fled, he said.

The police report said Trudeau’s head was bleeding, apparently from an injury received in the fight.
