The Kings acquired veteran goalie Al Jensen from the Washington Capitals Saturday night in a trade for defenseman Garry Galley.

“He (Jensen) has been a solid, proven goaltender for many years now and he has a lot of experience, which is something we are going to need down the stretch.” King General Manager Rogie Vachon said in a prepared statement.

Jensen had a 28-9-3 record last season and ranked second in the National Hockey League with a 3.29 goals-against average. His 28 wins were sixth-best in the league and also set a Washington record for most wins in one season.

However, Jensen had played in only six games this season, posting a 1-3-1 record with a 4.94 goals-against average. He had been playing in the minor leagues before the trade.

Galley, 23, had played in 30 games this season, his third with the Kings, scoring five goals and assisting on 11. He had sat out 12 of the last 15 games and asked to be traded.
