STATISTICAL WATCH : Franklin, MacLean Form Numbers’ Racket

At the conclusion of the regular season, the statistics clearly define the Valley’s top two players: Taft’s Kevin Franklin and Simi Valley’s Don MacLean. Franklin averaged 31.6 points and 8.0 rebounds in 21 regular-season games. The senior forward made 61% (268 of 437) of his field-goal attempts and 84% (128 of 158) of his free throws. MacLean averaged 24.2 points and 11.5 rebounds in 24 games. The junior center made 64% (226 of 355) of his field-goal attempts and 84% (141 of 169) of his free throws. . . . Tom Kelly of Burroughs made 95.5% of his free throws this season. The 5-8 senior guard hit 106 of 111, including a stretch of 43 straight.

Scoring: Calabasas forward Jon Drezner had 324 points and 317 rebounds in 24 games. . . . St. Genevieve forward Dion Contreras, who averages 9 points and 10 rebounds per game, had 25 points and 28 rebounds in two games last week. . . . Jeff Cirillo of Providence scored 50 points in two games last week.

Girls basketball: Reseda has lost only three West Valley League games in two seasons--all three to North Hollywood. . . . After losing its first league game, Monroe won nine straight to capture the Pac-6 League title. Annette Robinson had two-game totals last week of 45 points and 44 rebounds. . . . For the third time this season, Sylmar’s Keri Rincon set a school single-game scoring record with 40 points in a win over San Fernando. . . . Rio Mesa forward Mitsie O’Brien scored a school-record 41 points in a win over Dos Pueblos. She broke the record of 35 she set earlier this season. O’Brien averaged 23.4 points and 13.6 rebounds a game. . . . Even though Buckley missed the playoffs by losing to Brentwood and Cate last week, junior Laura Kirkpatrick scored 24 and 25 points in the two games.
