The manager of a Santa Ana bar was hospitalized with a bullet wound early Thursday after a patron ejected for drunken behavior returned 45 minutes later and fired shots at the East Warner Avenue establishment, police said.

Santa Ana Police Department spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said Narcisco Argota Rangel, 37, of Santa Ana was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken into custody near his home on Hesperian Street shortly after the 12:05 a.m. shooting.

Thomas said Shawn Wilson, the security guard at Garibaldi’s Bar, took down the license plate numbers as the shooter sped from the scene. Wilson and bar manager Maria Dora Owens had refused Rangel’s request for readmittance and were standing in front of the bar when Rangel fired “five or six” shots, Thomas said.

Owens, struck once on her left side by a bullet from a handgun, was taken to Coastal Community Hospital in Santa Ana.
