David (Salt) Walther, former Indianapolis 500 race driver, was arraigned in Municipal Court in Miamisburg, Ohio, on a felony charge of passing a bad check.

Walther, 39, of West Carrollton, Ohio, was charged with writing a worthless check for $300 at a store Nov. 29, court clerk Phyllis Lucas said. Walther pleaded innocent and was released without bond. A preliminary hearing was set for March 5.

Walther also faces drug charges in Richmond, Ind., and is to go to trial March 31. He was arrested Dec. 1 after allegedly going to three Richmond physicians and asking them to prescribe the painkiller Dilaudid, a synthetic form of heroin.
