Samuelson Makes CCAA First Team

Chapman senior guard Jon Samuelson was voted to the All-California Collegiate Athletic Assn. first team by the conference’s coaches Thursday night. Samuelson leads the Panthers in scoring (15.4-point average) and assists (114 in 27 games).
The Panthers’ Valarie Hartsfield (16.6 points) was selected to the women’s first team. She was joined by Pomona’s Debra Larsen (MVP), Cal State Los Angeles’ Lupe Quintana, Cal State San Luis Obispo’s Sherrie Atteberry and Northridge’s Denise Sitton.
Cal Poly SLO’s Sean Chambers and Cal State Dominguez Hills’ William Alexander were named co-MVPs. Joining them and Samuelson on the men’s first team were SLO’s Melvin Parker, Cal State Northridge’s Jimmy Daniels and UC Riverside’s Paul Kapturkiewicz.
Dominguez Hills’ Dave Yannai was men’s coach of the year, and Pomona’s Darlene May earned women’s honors.
