Orange County College Baseball : Hanker’s Four RBIs Lift Dominguez Hills, 6-5

Fred Hanker drove in four runs to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 6-5 nonconference victory over Cal State Fullerton Saturday at Fullerton.

Hanker hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4, but Dominguez Hills scored two runs in the seventh inning. Titan shortstop Mark Razook’s throwing error allowed the tying run to score, and Hanker’s single drove in Jon Beuder for the winning run.

Fullerton’s Mike Harkey (1-2), pitched a complete game, striking out seven. Joe Cortez (2-0) got the victory for Dominguez Hills, pitching seven innings. Chris Haslock earned a save.

Fullerton took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, when Razook drove in two runs with a single.

In other games:

San Diego State 8-5, UC Irvine 2-3--In the first game, San Diego State scored three unearned runs in the fifth inning. Nick Riesgo had two hits and two RBIs for the Aztecs, and Irvine’s Gabby Rodriguez got his first loss in four decisions.

In the second game, Harry Henderson went 2 for 3, scored two runs and had two RBIs to lead the Aztecs (8-5) with the sweep on Anteater Field.

Chapman 3, Grand Canyon 2--John Morin hit a bases-empty home run in the eighth inning, lifting the Panthers (6-6) to a victory at home.

Jim Areias, who went 3 for 4, drove Chapman’s other runs with singles in the third and seventh innings.

Dave Bird (2-0) pitched one-hit ball in relief over the final two innings to get the victory.

Grand Canyon College took a 1-0 lead on a second-inning home run by Greg Duce and tied the score at 2-2 with a squeeze bunt in the eighth.

In the Golden State Athletic Conference:

Southern California College 3-2, Point Loma 0-0--The Vanguards swept the doubleheader at Costa Mesa as Robert Mansfield and Mike Lomelli each pitched a shutout.

In the first game, Mansfield (1-1) allowed only one hit, a double in the fifth inning. SCC scored three runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Matt Kanopsis and Joe Holden.

Lomelli (1-1) had 13 strikeouts in the second game and allowed six hits. Josh Johnson’s two singles drove in both runs for SCC, which improved its record to 3-1 in the GSAC and 4-4 overall.
