Two young men were arrested Thursday afternoon less than an hour after a video store owner was fatally shot during an argument over the rental of a movie, authorities said.

The two suspects, who are in Santa Ana police custody, were not identified and police believe they may be juveniles, Santa Ana Police Lt. Bob Chavez said. They were arrested near Harbor Boulevard and Hazard Avenue after six witnesses provided police with a description of a car that sped away from the store’s parking lot after the shooting, Chavez said.

Officers found a gun in the suspects’ car, police said.

According to witnesses inside the Video Disco International store in the 900 block of South Main Street, two men came into the shop shortly before 1 p.m. and began arguing with store owner Manuel Ramirez, 32, of Santa Ana, over the rental of a video, Chavez said.

One of the men pulled out a handgun and shot Ramirez in the torso, police said. Ramirez was taken to Western Medical Center, where he later died.

Investigators at the scene originally believed robbery to be the motive for the killing, but police since have ruled that out, Chavez said.
