Ewing and Wilkins KO Clippers Early, 115-93

Patrick Ewing and Gerald Wilkins combined for 26 of New York’s 34 first-quarter points, and the Knicks coasted to their fourth straight NBA victory, a 115-93 decision over the Clippers Saturday night.

The Clippers, who have only three road victories this season, dropped their fourth consecutive game and their sixth in the last seven outings.

New York outshot the Clippers, 54% to 42%, in the first quarter, converting 11 Los Angeles turnovers into 11 points.

With the score tied, 13-13, with 6:17 left, Ewing and Wilkins scored 17 of the next 21 points for New York as the Knicks raced to a 34-24 lead at the end of the period. Ewing had 14 of his game-high 28 points and Wilkins 12 of his 21 in the period.

The Knicks, who led, 63-47, at halftime, padded their lead in the third period as Los Angeles shot 20%. New York led by as many as 26 points before finishing with a 92-65 advantage at the end of the quarter.

The Knicks led by as many as 33 in the fourth period.

Quintin Dailey paced the Clippers with 20 points, and Michael Cage had 19.

Wilkins, who had 33 points against Chicago and 41 against Philadelphia in his previous two games, fell short in his quest to join a select group of former New York players.

He had a chance of joining Walt Frazier and Richie Guerin as the only guards in Knick history to score 30 or more points in three consecutive games.
