Santa Monica College held a memorial tribute Tuesday for Anne K. Peters, a member of the college board of trustees who died at UCLA Medical Center after a lengthy battle with leukemia. She was 44.

Flags were flown at half-staff on campus this week in her memory.

“We will miss Anne and her love of the college world,” said college President Richard Moore. “She was a special friend to this college, a great advocate of our faculty. Her personal cheerfulness was a source of strength for many of us.”

Peters was a professor of sociology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, since 1972 and was coordinator of the university’s labor studies program from 1979 to 1985. She was elected to the Santa Monica College board of trustees in 1983.
