Fullerton trailed, 5-1, after four innings in the second game but scored single runs in the fifth and sixth and entered the bottom of the seventh behind 5-3. Mannion sent the scheduled seven-inning game into extra innings with his second home run of the season off Sean Rydell.

Jason Rolish, a freshman from Servite High School, tripled in the eighth inning and USIU pitcher Wally Trice issued intentional walks to the next two Fullerton batters. Trice then struck out Ken Garcia before walking Mannion to bring home the winning run.
