A 50-year-old motorist was killed Tuesday in Pacific Beach when his car careened into a tree after the man apparently suffered a heart attack, police reported.
Witnesses told police that Morton Jules Schnabel of La Jolla was driving erratically shortly after 7:30 a.m. as he approached Interstate 5 on Mission Bay Drive and slammed into a tree, Lt. Connie Van Putten said.
Schnabel was taken to Mission Bay Hospital where he died, police said.
An autopsy was pending, but traffic investigators and the coroner’s deputies said they believed Schnabel died of natural causes.
