Serial Rapist Sought at Beach

San Diego police are looking for a serial rapist who has assaulted five women in La Jolla and Pacific Beach since January, 1986.

Investigators said that four of the rapes occurred between Jan. 30, 1986, and March 15, 1986. The latest occurred Feb. 9, 1987, near La Jolla Boulevard and Nautilus Street, after an 11-month lapse.

Police described the rapist as an unkempt and unshaven white male in his early 20s, 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall. He usually covers his face with a ski mask or nylon stocking or covers his victim’s face.

All of the victims, who were in their 20s or early 30s, were assaulted between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. while they slept. Investigators said the rapist targets women living alone or with another woman in a ground-level apartment. He gains entry into the victim’s home by cutting a screen, forcing open a sliding glass door or window.
