The NCAA will continue its drug-testing program for championship competition despite a California court’s ruling excluding a Stanford athlete from drug testing, NCAA officials said in Mission, Kan.
On March 11, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Peter G. Stone agreed with Simone LeVant that the NCAA’s mandatory urine tests were an obtrusive and unconstitutional invasion of privacy.
LeVant won a preliminary injunction allowing her to compete without providing a urine sample.
The ruling applies only to the 22-year-old senior, a diver who will be able to compete at the NCAA finals Thursday in Indianapolis.
In a statement, the NCAA said it believed that ultimately, the courts would uphold the drug-testing program after a full trial and complete review of legal principles involved.
