Local News in Brief : Blaze Destroys 4 Stores at Simi Valley Mall
A fire Tuesday night destroyed four stores and heavily damaged a fifth at a 17-store shopping center in downtown Simi Valley.
The Ventura County Fire Department reported that 14 fire engines fought the blaze for two hours at the Regency Shopping Center, a one-story, U-shaped mall in the 1600 block of Los Angeles Avenue.
Four of the stores were gutted, and the fifth sustained severe damage from fire, smoke and water, a Fire Department spokeswoman said.
Some people were in the mall’s restaurants when the fire began at 8:10 p.m., but no injuries were reported late Tuesday, the spokeswoman said.
