College Roundup : Titans Sweep Softball Doubleheader
The Cal State Fullerton softball team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, opened its Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. season with a convincing doubleheader sweep of San Diego State Thursday, defeating the Aztecs, 7-0 and 20-0, at San Diego.
Connie Clark (9-0) pitched a one-hitter and Lani Silva led the Titan offense with three hits in the opener. Chris Gage pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap and received plenty of offensive support from Cathi Hall (5 for 6), Melissa Coombs (4 for 5) and Michelle Gromacki (home run). Fullerton is 17-2.
In nonconference volleyball action:
Chapman 3, Cal State San Bernardino 1--Erich Schlitz had 17 kills, and Mark Griffin, Bob Jones and Jim Pangsapa each added seven kills to lead the Panthers to a 15-6, 15-17, 15-10, 15-7 victory over the Coyotes at Orange. The victory was the fourth in the last five games for Chapman (6-5).
