COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS : Back-to-Back Home Runs Power Valley, 9-4
Chae-Ho Chong and Marc Sallin hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game, and Valley College went on to a 9-4 Southern California Conference baseball victory at East Los Angeles.
Chong’s two-run shot put Valley ahead, 6-3, then Sallin followed with a solo homer.
It was Sallin’s fifth home run of the year and Chong’s second. Right-hander Mike Clark struck out 10 batters for Pierce in a 10-5 win over Bakersfield in a Western State Conference game at Bakersfield. Mike Rosenberg was 3 for 5 with one run scored and Sebastian Goodlow was 2 for 4 with four RBIs as Pierce collected 14 hits.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Eileen Faley and Cristal Polee led Pierce College to an 8-1 Western State Conference victory over Allan Hancock at Pierce. Faley and Polee each won their singles matches, 6-1, 6-0.
Allison Kincaid was the lone winner for Cal State Northridge as Yale (8-3) dealt the Lady Matadors an 8-1 nonconference defeat at CSUN.
