Marc Wilson Still on Trading Block; Raiders Express Interest in Jaworski

Share

If it’s time for the Raiders’ quarterback camp, they must be considering trading Marc Wilson. As was the case last season, they seem to be doing just that.

It was during the camp last spring that Wilson learned he’d been offered to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now a Raider source says that despite Wilson’s guaranteed $1-million salary, there may be a taker for him.

The Raiders are also reportedly considering signing the Eagles’ recently waived Ron Jaworski. They have taken a lukewarm tone in public about him, but an NFL general manager says they are talking as if they might sign him. Also, Jaworski has already indicated his interest in a letter to the Raiders.

Rusty Hilger is slated for the No. 1 job, but Jaworski could be signed for far less than Wilson or Jim Plunkett are making. And Plunkett, at 39, is coming off rotator cuff surgery, however minor.

The general manager says the taker for Wilson might be the Green Bay Packers, with the Raiders agreeing to pay $400,000 of Wilson’s contract.

A Packer source said that the teams have talked, but not about Wilson, and that the Raiders are one of three teams--San Francisco is another--that have been offered wide receiver James Lofton.
