Center Chris Washburn, the No. 3 pick overall in the NBA draft, will return to the Golden State Warriors next week after the completion of a substance-abuse treatment program, the club announced.

Washburn, 21, entered the ASAP Treatment Center in Van Nuys, Calif., on Jan. 28 when he admitted to abusing drugs. The former North Carolina State star, who will return to the team Monday, will enter the after-care phase of the program in Oakland. He entered the draft as a hardship case after his sophomore season.

Under the league agreement with the NBA Players Assn., Washburn is considered a first-time offender because he came forward with his problem. Should Washburn suffer a relapse, he will forfeit his salary while undergoing a second round of treatment. Should he be caught a third time, Washburn will be banned from the league for a minimum of two years.
