College Baseball : Fullerton Walks Way to 15-7 Victory

Cal State Fullerton scored eight runs in the eighth inning on one hit, an error and eight walks, defeating Washington, 15-7, Friday at Titan Field.

Washington led, 4-2, in the fifth, but a two-run homer by Mike Ross put Fullerton ahead, 5-4, in the sixth.

The score was tied, 7-7, in the seventh before Fullerton’s eight-run inning.

Fullerton is 18-10. It was the season opener for Washington (0-1).

Chapman 17, Glassboro State 2--Bucky Bollinger went 4 for 5 to lead a 24-hit attack in the Panthers’ victory at Hart Park Friday.

Bollinger had three singles and a double, and was also hit by a pitch. Jeff Morrison and Brent Rhylick had three hits each for Chapman (11-12).

The Panthers sent 12 men to the plate in the first inning against losing pitcher Jim Logar (0-2) and came away with seven runs on nine hits.

Chapman starter Jeff Mooney went two innings and struck out three while allowing just one hit. Freshman Steve Halweg (1-1) got the victory in relief.

Chapman is scheduled to open California Collegiate Athletic Assn. play Saturday when it plays host to UC Riverside at Hart Park at 1 p.m.
