The Master’s College sent 15 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored 11 runs as it built a 16-3 lead and then hung on, 22-15, over Concordia in a nonconference game at Master’s.

Todd Skinner and Tim Kane hit two-run homers, and Skinner also had a run-scoring double in the inning. Skinner was 5 for 6 with three runs batted in, Tony Ellis was 4 for 7 with three RBIs, Jeff Preston was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Kane was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Master’s (12-13). . . . College of the Canyons remained undefeated in the Western State Conference by sweeping Santa Barbara, 19-2 and 3-0, in a doubleheader at Santa Barbara. Canyons (14-3, 10-0) had 18 hits in the first game as Bob Bowman picked up his first victory of the season. Bowman gave up five hits, walked three and struck out five in seven innings. Andy Cutchall was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs for Canyons. Teammate Glenn Raasch hit a three-run home run in the seventh.

Canyons was held to seven hits in the second game but that was all it needed as Chris Zavatsky (2-1) threw a one-hitter. Zavatsky, who struck out four and walked one, had a no-hitter through five innings but gave up a single to the leadoff batter in the sixth. Victor Sotelo of Canyons hit a two-run home run in the third and a two-out, run-scoring single in the fifth. . . . Pierce dropped a nonconference doubleheader to Oxnard, 7-1, 11-7, at Pierce. Mike Rosenberg, Mark Bowen and Rob Campbell had two hits apiece. In the second game, Oxnard scored six runs in the third inning on four hits and three errors to take a 7-1 lead.

SOFTBALL

Lisa Martin pitched a two-hitter as Cal State Northridge defeated Cal State Dominguez Hill in the second game of pool play at the Cal State Hayward tournament. Martin (4-0) struck out five and walked two in five innings. Kelly Winn, Tricia Saxton and Priscilla Rouse led the Northridge offense. Winn was 2 for 3 with one RBI; Saxton was 2 for 2 with one RBI and Rouse hit her first home run in the third inning. The Lady Matadors (21-5) play the University of Oregon at 9 a.m. today and Hayward at 12:30 p.m.

Winn drove in two runs and Regena Lyons hit a solo home run as CSUN shut out Cal State Sonoma, 4-0, in the first round.

Sophomore right-hander Karen Mead pitched her sixth consecutive shutout in Western State Conference play to lead Moorpark to a 7-0 win over Canyons (1-5 in conference) at Moorpark. Mead struck out six, walked two, allowed three hits, and was 2 for 4 with one RBI.

VOLLEYBALL

Joe Sorensen and Ron Dugar had 17 kills apiece to lead Pierce to a 13-15, 9-15, 15-8, 15-13, 15-10 win over Golden West in a Western State Conference game at Pierce.
