Pala
A teen-age pedestrian was killed Saturday night when she was struck by a car on California 76 in Pala, authorities said.
Stacy Lynette Smith, 16, of Pala, was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10 p.m. Saturday after paramedics’ efforts to revive her failed, San Diego County Deputy Coroner Jack Larkie said. The collision occurred about one-quarter mile west of Pala Mission Road.
Initially, the accident was treated as a hit-and-run. But 90 minutes later, the vehicle that allegedly struck Smith returned to the scene. After a brief chase, an unidentified suspect was arrested by the California Highway Patrol, a spokeswoman said.
