Moorpark College had not given up a run in 44 innings of conference play this season until Ventura scored two in the second inning of a Western State Conference game at Moorpark. But the runs had no effect on the outcome as Moorpark posted an 11-2 victory. Moorpark (14-8, 7-0 in conference) kept its lock on first place in the WSC thanks to some help from several Valley-area products. Kristi Barber (Granada Hills High) went 4 for 4 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored; Krissy Erickson (Kennedy) went 4 for 5 and had 3 RBIs and 3 stolen bases, and Malia Ouzts (Westlake) went 3 for 4, scoring 3 runs and stealing 3 bases. Karen Mead (14-7) had nine strikeouts and pitched a four-hitter for Moorpark. Ventura (0-7 in conference) has the WSC’s worst record. Both of Ventura’s runs were unearned.

Sabrina Kuhn raced home to score the winning run on a wild throw by the catcher in the eighth inning to give Pierce a 2-1 Western State Conference victory over Cuesta. Lynn Hammond drove in Kim Cansino with a triple in the third inning for Pierce (9-8, 5-2).

GOLF

Bob Meyerson shot a 76 to lead Pierce to a 405-446 Western State Conference victory over West L.A. at Braemar Country Club in Reseda. Other scores for Pierce (2-3 in conference) included Mike Godinez (77) and Rick Starsmere (78). Mark Corley shot 79 for West L.A.
