NBA referee Jack Madden will be fined an undisclosed amount of money for initiating a confrontation Monday night with Atlanta Hawk president Stan Kasten, NBA vice president Rod Thorn announced.
In the fourth quarter of Atlanta’s 110-105 win over Cleveland Monday, Kasten and Madden exchanged words at the press table.
“Do you think you look intelligent standing there shaking your head?” Madden asked Kasten, who had been silently expressing his displeasure with a call. Madden had summoned Kasten from his usual station 20 feet beyond the court.
In Monday’s game, the Hawks outscored Cleveland by 40 points from the field but barely held onto win as the Cavaliers sank 51 or 59 free throws. By contrast, the Hawks shot only 19 times from the line, making 16.
