Santa Ana Hits 5 Homers in Inning; Hefler Hits 3 in Game for 20-6 Win
Santa Ana High School hit five home runs in one inning, and Saint center fielder John Hefler had three home runs and nine RBIs Tuesday, as Santa Ana defeated Santa Ana Valley, 20-6, in an Elks tournament consolation game at Orange High.
Hefler hit a grand slam in the second inning and followed with a two-run homer and a three-run homer in the third. Julio Vargas also hit a bases-empty home run and a two-run homer in the third. Alex Espinosa added a bases-empty home run in the third.
The Southern Section does not keep records for home runs in an inning.
The Saints had 21 hits off four pitchers. Hefler had four hits and scored four runs; Vargas had two hits, four RBIs and scored three runs.
