San Diego College Baseball : Echeveste’s Pinch-Hit Wins for USD
Dan Echeveste delivered a two-run pinch-hit single in the eighth inning Thursday to give the University of San Diego an 8-7 victory over Pacific Lutheran in a nonconference game at USD.
USD (25-17-1) rallied from a 5-1 deficit after three innings.
Juan Bonilla led the Toreros’ 10-hit attack with two singles, and Dave Rolls added a solo home run. Jerry Larson hit a home run for Pacific Lutheran (10-12).
Mark Manor got the victory in relief, and Jim Westlund pitched the ninth inning for the save.
UC San Diego 9, Cal State San Bernardino 7--Bob Natal hit his 12th home run and went 3 for 3 to lead the Tritons (19-11) at San Bernardino.
Natal’s two-run homer, in the third inning, helped UCSD rally from a 3-0 deficit. Derek Alkonis had two singles and two RBIs and Henry Jimenez added two hits for UCSD. Mike Morgan (2-2) shut out CSSB over the last three innings.
