College of the Canyons baseball team isn’t greedy, it just doesn’t like one of anything.

Canyons had not one, but four big innings. Not one, but 15 hits. And not one, but five errors in a 15-4 victory over Merced in the first round of the Allan Hancock tournament.

“We’ve been scoring our runs in bunches all season,” Canyons Coach Len Mohney said. “Usually we score early and hope the other team doesn’t make a comeback.”

Andy Cutchall had a two-run single to highlight a four-run fifth inning, and Mike Bible had a two-run double to spark a three-run sixth. Teddy Weisfuss hit a three-run home run, his third of the season, as Canyons concluded its scoring with a six-run eighth.

Bible and Weisfuss each went 3 for 5 and had 3 runs batted in. Cutchall and Victor Sotelo each had two hits.

Jordan Cook scattered five hits and one walk in six innings for Canyons. He struck out six and improved his record to 4-1.

Canyons (22-3-1) plays today in the second round of the round-robin tournament.

Steve Reyes doubled home the winning run in the fourth inning and Jeff Lane hit a solo home run as The Master’s College defeated Westmont, 5-1, in an NAIA District III game at Westmont.

Pitcher Jeff Hagy (4-3) went the distance, striking out four, walking four and surrendering 10 hits. Reyes was 3 for 5 and Mark MacArthur was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI to lead a 12-hit attack for Master’s (20-17, 12-4 in conference). Westmont fell to 19-18 and 11-7.
