STAT WATCH : Great Scott! Alemany Wins 7 Without Biley

Share

Alemany has won seven straight games despite playing without shortstop Greg Biley, who was suspended from the team indefinitely for disciplinary reasons three weeks ago. Biley is leading the team with a .429 batting average and four home runs, but the severity of his absence has been lessened by the play of his replacement, junior Mike Scott, who is batting .394. . . . Simi Valley’s Greg Gerber hit safely in nine straight at-bats to break the school mark of eight straight set by Eric Fischer in 1984. Gerber, who is 30 for 61, finally was retired on a sharp ground out to third.

Streaks: Tim Laker, who has had at least one hit in each of Simi Valley’s 18 games this season, has 35 hits, 12 shy of the school record set last season by Shaun Murphy. . . . Royal’s Joe Summers has hit home runs in each of his past four games. . . . Brian Stothers of Saugus had an 11-game hitting streak snapped against Buena. . . .

Batting: Crespi’s average has improved from .210 to .314 over the past five games. . . . Birmingham’s average is .347. Mike Shalofski (.454) and Tim Beagle (.412) lead the Braves. . . . San Fernando’s Josh Bergara batted .650 in the Holt-Goodman tournament. . . . Saugus averages six runs a game, but Centurion batters have struck out 114 times in 98 innings.

Pitching: Montclair Prep pitchers were pounded in the Thousand Oaks tournament, giving up 30 runs and losing two of three games. They walked 23 batters in losses to Westlake and Channel Islands. Scott Hauser, however, pitched a complete game victory over Agoura. Hauser is 12-0 over the past two seasons.

Softball: Newbury Park’s Dara Ferris was 9 for 17 in the Anaheim Tournament of Champions and was named to the all-tournament team along with teammate Stacy Frydenberg.
