Providence College basketball Coach Rick Pitino, an assistant coach for two years with the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Assn., is waiting for his old employer to make the first move.
The Knicks fired General Manager Scotty Stirling and Coach Bob Hill Monday, actions that would seem to provide an opening for Pitino. But the coach, whose unranked Friars made the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Final Four this year, said he is waiting to see whether the Knicks want to make him an offer.
Pitino added: “Obviously, I’m going to listen if they want to talk to me. It’s always been a great franchise and it still is.”
