A Green Bay, Wis., judge ordered a jury to be imported from approximately 150 miles away for the sexual assault trial of Raider wide receiver James Lofton, formerly of the Packers.
In granting a defense motion for an outside jury, Circuit Judge Alexander Grant said the selection of jurors would begin May 18 at Janesville, about 150 miles away in south-central Wisconsin. Once the panel is chosen, it will be transported to Green Bay and sequestered for the trial.
Lofton, 30, whose trade to the Raiders earlier this month was prompted by heated community feelings over the case, has pleaded innocent to charges of second-degree sexual assault. He is accused of forcing a 30-year-old woman he met Dec. 19 in a Green Bay nightclub to perform oral sex.
