Sean Penn faces possible jail time after violating his parole by allegedly punching an extra on the set of “Colors” in Venice Beach on April 2. City attorney’s office spokesman Mike Qualls said that Penn “swore at,” then “spat at” and punched extra Jeffrey Klein “with a closed fist” after Klein, 32, took snapshots of the actor and co-star Robert Duvall on the set. Klein was treated for contusions and cuts at an emergency medical care center but didn’t require hospitalization, the spokesman said. Penn, 26, was charged in an arrest warrant last Friday with violating probation stemming from an earlier assault to which he pleaded no contest and finally appeared in Municipal Court on Thursday morning. Municipal Court Commissioner Juelann Cathey released Penn on his own recognizance and set a hearing for June 16. “He was given the maximum possible (probation) when sentenced by the commissioner,” Qualls said, “so the only option left would be jail time,” he said, adding that Penn faces up to six months in jail if the commissioner finds he violated probation. Penn had no comment.
