Local News in Brief : Kanan Dume Road Is Reopened to Traffic

Share

Kanan Dume Road, which was closed four months for repairs, was reopened to traffic Friday.

A 10-mile stretch of the road, which runs between Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and Mulholland Highway near Westlake Village, was closed in January for general road repairs and work to prevent landslides.

Los Angeles County Public Works spokeswoman Jean Granucci said the road opened three weeks ahead of schedule because of good weather and contractors’ efforts to complete the project along the popular beach route.

“We realized that the closure was an inconvenience to commuters and beach-bound traffic. But the action was necessary for slide stabilization of a 350-foot cliff,” Granucci said.

Periodic lane closures will be required for resurfacing and drainage work to complete the $1.6-million construction project, she said.
