Knight Rebuked for Outburst; Indiana Fined

Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight has been reprimanded and the university fined $10,000 out of its share of tournament receipts because of Knight’s action during a tournament game, the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. announced Friday.

The action by the NCAA Division I men’s basketball committee involved a regional tournament game in Cincinnati March 22, when the Hoosiers, who went on to win the national championship, defeated Louisiana State. Knight pounded his fist on the scorer’s table after getting a technical foul for going onto the court.

The fine represents about 1% of Indiana’s net receipts for the NCAA tournament, which total $1,003,375.
