Santa Ana : Public Meeting to Be Held on Car-Pool Lanes

Share

Citing recent findings that the car-pool lanes on the Costa Mesa Freeway have increased the number of accidents, Assemblyman Nolan Frizzelle (R-Huntington Beach) has scheduled a public meeting Thursday to discuss the controversial lanes.

Although the session will not be an official Assembly hearing, Frizzelle has invited “all interested parties” to give “testimony” at the meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the county Hall of Administration in Santa Ana.

Also, he has invited other Orange County legislators to serve as panelists.

Frizzelle, a critic of the car-pool lanes, said a previous ruling by Caltrans and county transportation officials that made the lanes permanent should be reviewed by people not involved in prior car-pool lane decisions, and by “those who have direct responsibility to the public.”

State and county officials have defended the special lanes with statistics showing that the freeway is now carrying more people, and carrying them faster.

Frizzelle said a second meeting will be held May 14 if Thursday’s session runs over.

People interested in addressing the meeting should call (714) 662-5503.
