“Napoli.” Home Vision. $39.95. Nobody dances the ballets of August Bournonville with quite the elegance, buoyancy and warmth of the Royal Danish Ballet. Taped in Copenhagen, this 1986 performance of Bournonville’s 1842 three-act classic about the love and faith of a young fisherman comes close to being definitive. Certainly the dancing (led by the noble Arne Villumsen and the vibrant Linda Hindberg) achieves state-of-the-art zest and brilliance. Unfortunately, TV director Preben Montell overemphasizes the ballet’s comic pantomime by endless close-ups of subsidiary characters, losing the action (and sometimes dancing) occurring elsewhere on stage.
