Three San Diego County high schools are among those nationwide announced as winners Wednesday in the 1986-87 National Secondary School Recognition Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.

They are Orange Glen High School in Escondido, Torrey Pines High School in Del Mar and Southwest High School in San Ysidro.

The schools were chosen based on several factors, including scores on standardized tests, daily attendance rates, school goals and expectations of students.
