Santa Ana : Police Officer Shoots Burglary Suspect in Hip
A police officer shot a burglary suspect in the hip early Saturday morning after the man appeared to be reaching for a gun, police said.
The incident began about 5:30 a.m. when residents living near a tire store in the 1400 block of South Main Street called police and said a man was stealing tires from the store. They gave officers a description of the suspect and his car, Police Lt. Mike Lanners said.
The officer responding to the call found the suspect driving a car filled with tires. The man stopped his car and ran off. The officer chased him into the backyard of a home in the 2400 block of South Maple Street.
When the suspect appeared to reach for a weapon, the officer shot him once, Lanners said.
Reginald Magana, 29, of Santa Ana, was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana for surgery. He was reported in stable condition late Saturday.
