No, a new office building isn’t going up along 1st Street between Hill and Olive streets across the street from the County Courthouse. The construction trailer with “Tutor-Saliba” on it is that firm’s field headquarters for its work on Metro Rail.

Tutor-Saliba Corp. has the contract to build the Metro Rail tunnels from Union Station to the 5th and Hill Station, according to Ronald Tutor, president of the Sylmar-based firm that specializes in heavy construction projects.

The company will also build the Civic Center Station that will run for a length of 590 feet under Hill Street between 1st and Temple streets, he said. According to the Southern California Rapid Transit District, the Civic Center Station is expected to be operating by the middle of 1992.
