Rabbi Sheldon Dorph has been named executive director of the Pacific Southwest Region of the United Synagogue of America, which provides consultation to 59 Conservative congregations in Southern California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii. Dorph has served the Los Angeles community for 15 years as principal of the Los Angeles Hebrew High School and founder and headmaster of the Golda Meir School. Regional offices of the United Synagogue are at the University of Judaism, 15600 Mulholland Drive.

Actor Dennis Weaver has been named the 1987 recipient of Toastmaster International’s Communication and Leadership Award. Weaver was chosen because of the communication skills demonstrated in his acting career, for his role in establishing the Love Is Feeding Everyone food program and his efforts on behalf of international peace. The actor is a resident of Malibu.

California Highway Patrol Capt. Chuck Campbell is the new commander of the department’s West Los Angeles area, which is staffed by about 80 uniformed officers. Campbell, a 22-year veteran of the department, succeeds Capt. Ken Christiansen, who transferred to the Riverside area.

Barry Kaye, chairman of Barry Kaye Associates, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Associates of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel at the group’s Centennial Celebration Dinner-Dance on Wednesday at the Beverly Hilton. The event marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, who died in 1973. Special guest will be Amos Ben-Gurion, former Israeli commissioner of police and son of Paula and David Ben-Gurion.

Dr. Fritz H. Bach will speak when the Los Angeles Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science honors its fellows at a dinner-dance June 14 at the Century Plaza. Bach is director of the Immunology Center at the University of Minnesota and serves on the Weizmann Institute Scientific Advisory Board. He will be joined by James Nathan, chairman of the Fellows Committee. The Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, is a research center in the natural sciences.

Eris M. Field is the new president of the Los Angeles chapter of Brandeis University National Women’s Committee. Field has served as vice president of Stephen S. Wise Temple and is former president of Wise Women of the temple.

Architect Richard Meier has been named the Harvey S. Perloff Visiting Professor in Architecture/Urban Design for the spring quarter at UCLA. Meier was recently selected to design the J. Paul Getty Arts Center Complex in Brentwood.

Santa Monica resident Edna Ralston was elected state president and a national director of the National Navy League during its recent convention in Washington. She is former president of the Greater Los Angeles Council of the Navy League.

County Supervisor Deane Dana has announced the names of Westside residents honored at the annual volunteer luncheon held recently at the Music Center. They are: Jeanne Agoglia, Virginia R. Morris, Philip Le Vine, Sylvia Dunn, Mary Lorraine Romig and Lila Blair Yingling.
