Ground Broken for Complex Near County Medical Center
Ground has been broken for the $105-million USC University Hospital and Richard K. Eamer Medical Plaza complex near the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center in the northeast part of the city.
The complex, at the corner of San Pablo and Alcazar streets adjacent to the USC Health Sciences campus, will include a 283-bed hospital and ambulatory care center when it is completed in spring, 1990. The complex will be built and operated by Los Angeles-based National Medical Enterprises Inc.
USC is one of the few major university medical schools in the nation without its own teaching hospital, so most USC faculty and students presently conduct their clinical practice at the Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. The new complex will provide students and resident physicians with exposure to a greater diversity of patients with varying medical problems, a USC official said.
Rees Associates of Oklahoma City, W. Ted Tyler of Santa Ana are architects for the hospital while the ambulatory care center will be designed by Langdon Wilson Mumper Architects. Stolte Inc. will be the general contractor.
