Holiday Bowl Signs Contract With ESPN
The Holiday Bowl has reached a three-year agreement with ESPN, bowl officials announced Monday.
John Reid, the bowl’s executive director, said the contract will make the bowl game more attractive to potential teams. This year’s game, marking the bowl’s 10th anniversary, is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 4:30 p.m.
“ESPN’s visibility in the collegiate athletic fraternity is vital to us in recruiting teams,” Reid said. “ESPN will treat this game as the capper of their college football season and will promote it accordingly.”
Under the agreement, each team will receive $750,000, an increase from the $661,000 given last year.
The Holiday Bowl adds to ESPN’s growing collegiate football coverage. The all-sports cable network will broadcast 49 college games this season, plus the California Bowl in Fresno Dec. 12., according to Reid.
The independent Holiday Bowl Television Network broadcast last year’s game, in which Iowa beat San Diego State, 39-38.
