San Pedro : Corps Seeking Volunteers
The California Conservation Corps is seeking volunteers for a community resource board, which will deal with such issues as recruitment, community relations, job development and maintenance of facilities at the center in Angels Gate Park. Volunteers should contact Cisco Hunter, manager of the San Pedro Center, at 831-0185.
The corps, established in 1976 by former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr., trains men and women between the ages of 18 and 23 and then pays them to work for the state for one year. The Angels Gate camp, one of three in the Los Angeles area, houses 82 members in former military barracks. It serves most of the city of Los Angeles, as well as the South Bay and the Long Beach areas.
