COALGATE, Okla. —
A lightning strike at a Coalgate softball field killed one boy and injured two other people.
“They were playing ball when a cloud came up. All of them were in the outfield,” Coal County Undersheriff Bill Ward said today. Timmy Pickens, 12, was killed when hit directly by the bolt Wednesday night and Mel Ott, 11, and Faye Ratcliffe, 27, were knocked unconscious. Rain was not falling at the time, but a heavy shower followed a short time later.
