An 18-month-old boy drowned Saturday afternoon in the backyard swimming pool of his parents’ El Cajon home despite efforts by his 16-year-old brother, paramedics and doctors to revive him, authorities said.
Patrick James Cummins, whose parents, Gary and Diana, live in the 13900 block of Avenida Del Charro, died at Children’s Hospital about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, hospital spokeswoman Terry Merryman said.
About 1 p.m., the Lakeside Fire Department was called to the house by the boy’s older brother, who had been baby-sitting him, said Fire Capt. Kim Raddatz. They found the baby out of the pool and inside the house, where his brother was attempting to revive him.
Paramedics were called to the scene, and after further efforts to revive Cummins failed he was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Children’s Hospital, where he died a short time later.
