Power Restored to to 1,200 Households

Power was restored early Sunday morning to about 1,200 households in Studio City after a traffic accident caused an electrical blackout north of Mulholland Drive, authorities said.

The power outage occurred about 10:30 Saturday night when a Jeep ran off Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Berry Drive, hit a fire hydrant and slammed into a power pole, said Ed Freudenburg, spokesman for the Department of Water and Power. Police immediately closed a mile-long section of Laurel Canyon Boulevard to all traffic because of flooding and downed power lines.

The driver, Robert Goodman, 22, of Beverly Hills, was arrested for drunk driving shortly after being taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank where he was treated for minor injuries, said Sgt. Jim Gicking of the Valley Traffic Division.
