CBS News’ “West 57th” series, whose future had been in doubt because of low ratings, was renewed Tuesday for the full 1987-88 season after CBS decided the news-magazine show could survive the coming season in its current Saturday slot at 10 p.m. CBS Broadcast Group president Gene F. Jankowksi had said earlier that show would be renewed only if it proved itself in the ratings this summer. It averaged a 16% share of audience in its time period last week. In a statement Tuesday, Jankowksi siad the network was “most encouraged” by the show’s summer ratings, which he said “justifies our original decision to place it on our fall schedule.”
