‘Enormity’

Share

In his tribute to Fred Astaire, President Reagan said that Astaire’s “casual air belied the enormity of his talent.”

My Funk & Wagnalls dictionary defines “enormity” as “1. The state of being outrageous or extremely wicked; 2. Great or flagrant instance of wickedness or depravity; an extreme or outrageous offense; atrocity.”

Aside from the belief that someone in the President’s entourage should try not to issue such ignorance in the President’s name, I suggest the greatest enormity current today is the Reagan Administration itself.

It no longer matters whether the President did or didn’t know what was going on. Reagan clearly approves of the attempt to circumvent the will of the people as expressed by Congress and thinks that Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North is a “national hero.”

When is someone with national clout going to come out and say what is already evident--that the emperor has no clothes except arrogance and sleaze and that the time for impeachment is here.
