With Independence Day falling on a Saturday, confusion has set in about holiday closures. Many workers will get a jump on the weekend with a day off under June-like skies Friday while others proceed with business as usual.

Mail delivery, for example, will be made Friday, but not Saturday. Some post offices will be closed Friday, and some will be open full or half days. All will be closed Saturday.

All city, state, county and federal offices will be closed both days, including courts, libraries and animal shelters. Trash collection, however, will be made as usual on Friday.

The Miramar Landfill will be open both days, but the Montgomery Landfill will be closed Friday and Saturday. The county landfill will be open Friday and closed Saturday.

The stock exchange and most banks will be open as usual on Friday.

Holiday schedules will vary in city recreation facilities, and six city lakes will be open both days from sunrise to sunset: They are El Capitan, Murray, Miramar, Otay, Sutherland and Hodges.

All county, state and federal parks will be open both days.

According to National Weather Service forecasters, the July holiday weather will carry on with June gloom through the weekend. Night and morning clouds are expected, with hazy afternoon sunshine.

Normal afternoon humidity of about 65% will continue and seasonal temperatures are expected. Daytime beach highs are expected to be in the 65- to 70-degree range with nighttime lows in the mid-50s to mid-60s. Inland valley highs are expected to be in the mid-70s to mid-80s with lows in the 50s.

Mountain areas will be clear with highs in the 70s and desert highs should be in the 100- to 108-degree range.

Post offices that will be closed all day Friday are: Chula Vista’s Rancho del Rey Station, Leucadia Branch, Grossmont Center Station, Lincoln Acres, Oceanside’s 1st Street Station, Camp Pendleton Station and Spring Valley’s station at 9728 Campo Road.
