The Region : Cargo Jet, Truck Collide at L.A. Airport
A Flying Tigers Boeing 747 cargo plane and a catering truck collided on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport, damaging one of the plane’s outside engines but causing no injuries. It was the third such incident in 10 days. On June 22, the wing of a United Airlines 747 struck an America West airliner. On June 25, a taxiing Mexicana 727 jetliner with no passengers aboard hit a stationary cement truck, damaging a wing. The latest incident occurred on Taxi Runway 45 near American Airlines Terminal No. 4, airport spokeswoman Sharon Hahn said. “Preliminary findings indicate we were in the proper location,” said Flying Tigers spokeswoman Joy Sabol. “The FAA had control of the plane and had cleared it for taxiing.” Sabol said the jumbo jet was heading to a maintenance hangar.
